Work Options for Immigrants

Goulburn Valley DAMA

In recent years, several firms have expressed difficulty attracting and retaining qualified staff. This applies to a wide range of industries, including health, professional services, agriculture, education, specialty services, and trades. Regional populations are often the hardest affected by these shortages due to socioeconomic and geographic constraints. Since 2020, the massive strain on struggling businesses has gotten much greater. Are you also one of those suffering? Are you looking for an employer-sponsored visa Victoria-wide? Goulburn Valley DAMA has got your back!

What is DAMA?

DAMA agreements are contracts between the federal government and a regional, state, or territory government. These agreements are designed to meet the specific labor needs of individual regional areas. Employers who have access to a DAMA can propose skilled and semi-skilled individuals for TSS 482 and 186 visas in occupations that would not be eligible otherwise. Employers and employees may be eligible for concessions if they nominate personnel under a DAMA agreement, such as minimum pay levels and English language requirements.

What are the working options for immigrants?

The GV DAMA is a focused initiative that provides migrant employees to endorsed firms. Workers hired under the DAMA are not displacing local workers; rather, they are filling major shortages in the labor market that have been slowing down the region’s enterprises. Businesses in the region will be able to remain productive, competitive, and sustainable in the future thanks to the DAMA. Greater Shepparton City Council, Moira Shire, and Campaspe Shire are the three LGAs that make up the GV DAMA. The initiative’s main point of contact is the Designated Area Representative (DAR), who is headquartered at Greater Shepparton City Council. If your company is based in the Goulburn Valley and is looking to hire foreign workers in one of the Approved Occupations on the GV DAMA list, you may be qualified to join the agreement.

How does DAMA actually work?

To designate a worker for a post under the DAMA scheme, the employer must first get the Designated Area Representative’s approval, then file and get approval for a Labour Agreement. The post must be defined in the head agreement, and the employer must be able to show that it made a sincere effort to hire Australians. The employer may designate eligible workers under the 482 TSS pathway once a Labor Agreement is in place. The bearer of a 482 TSS visa may later be eligible for a 186 LAS visa.
