We are proud of the poet: Speaker

Speaker of Parliament. Shirin Sharmin Chowdhury says that the poet Rabindranath Tagore has enriched the Bengali language and literature so much that there is no comparison. He spent a long time at Kuthibari in Shilaidaha, Kushtia. There he wrote numerous literatures. So it has a lot of tradition and glory. We are proud of the poet, whose memorial house is located in Kushtia district of Bangladesh.

He was speaking as the chief guest at a discussion meeting and cultural program at Kuthibari of Shilaidaha in Kumarkhali upazila of Kushtia on Sunday (May 8) at 3.30 pm on the occasion of the 181st birth anniversary of Rabindranath Tagore.

Dr. Shirin Sharmin Chowdhury said that it is very important to create opportunities for people to come to Rabindra Kuthibari in Shilaidaha so that they can visit and get to know him and do research on the poet. Hon’ble Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, Ministry of Culture and concerned authorities are working realizing the importance of Kuthibari.

He further said that poet Rabindranath Tagore was fascinated by the nature of Bangladesh. He was a defendant writer. In Shilaidaha Kuthibari, the poet has written a variety of literature including timeless poetry book Sonar Tari and Nobel laureate Gitanjali and many other timeless stories, poems and novels. He is always present in the minds of Bengalis. The poet has expressed all the thoughts and variations of Bengali life in his writings, melodies and poems. His literary work, music, philosophy of life, humanity, thought all inspire to be a true Bengali.

State Minister for Culture KM Khalid presided over the function while Simin Hossain Rimi, Chairman of Parliamentary Standing Committee on Ministry of Culture, Barrister Selim Altaf George, Member of Parliament for Kushtia-4 and Presidium Member of Juba League were present as special guests. Welcoming remarks by the Secretary of Culture. Abul Mansur. Professor Sanat Kumar Saha delivered the commemorative speech.

Kushtia Deputy Commissioner Mohammad Saidul Islam and Superintendent of Police Khairul Alam were present on the occasion.
