Two members of DB have been fired for recording a video of a couple

Two members of the Comilla DB (Intelligence Division) police have been fired for allegedly videotaping and harassing a teenage couple on New Year’s Day. Comilla District Superintendent of Police Farooq Ahmed confirmed on Friday that they were dismissed on Thursday night. The two suspended DB members are Nazrul Islam and Roman Habib alias Robin

On the day of Holy Boishakh, a student of class XI and a student of class IX in Dharmapur area of Comilla Nagar was sitting in Comilla Dharmasagarpar Nagar Park talking. The park is located next to the district DB office. Hundreds of people gather there every day. The couple were sitting side by side chatting like many others at the New Year festival.

In the video spread on social media, it is seen that a member of the DB police was watching the couple wearing red sari and red Punjabi and making video on his mobile phone from a distance. He wants to know their identity by going in front of them while making video from behind. The member kept asking them one question after another. Another DB member who was with him went to ask the girl to open the mask and addressed her as ‘Tui’. He said to the teenager, “Muraya chhatna chiralamu at once.”

The DB members asked for the girl’s father’s mobile phone number at that time and they started apologizing out of fear and the girl’s father was living abroad, the boy said. Then another DB member from the side said, ‘I will come from abroad (father of the teenager) now, otherwise I will take him to the office. The guardian will come and take him from the office. ‘

The boy is seen apologizing several times in the video. But the police members did not listen. When the 1 minute 10 second video spread on social media, there was a storm of criticism over the issue. Meanwhile, news came that two DB members had been sacked.

Nazmul Alam Chowdhury, president of the Comilla district branch of the Bangladesh Human Rights Implementation Organization, said it was not right for the police to make a video where the police arrested the culprit if the video went viral. Let them be brought under the law. How this video spread on social media also needs to be investigated. In that case, if the teenager had made a suicidal decision, who would have been responsible for it?

Confirming the authenticity of the video, District Superintendent of Police Farooq Ahmed said, ‘I saw it on social media. Some people have also informed me about the matter verbally. The two policemen were identified after the matter came to light. They were suspended at night. Besides, departmental action will be taken against them. It was not possible to take statements of the two DB members who were accused.
