Explaining his position on the Al-Aqsa mosque attack, Ali Bahaduri Zahroumi, a spokesman for the Iranian government, said Israel’s normalization of relations with some Arab Islamic countries had strengthened Zionist repression.
Ali Bahaduri said this at a press conference on Tuesday. He said Iran’s foreign minister had held talks with foreign ministers of several Islamic countries and Hamas. The United Arab Emirates, Bahrain, Sudan and Morocco signed an agreement to normalize relations with Israel in 2020 at the initiative of former US President Donald Trump.
Ali Bahaduri also mentioned that Iran had sent a letter to the Secretary General of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) condemning the actions of the Zionist regime.
Earlier, Iranian Foreign Ministry spokesman Saeed Khatibzadeh said that Muslims should stand united with the Palestinians.
Tensions between Israel and the Palestinians have risen sharply since the start of Ramadan. Several Palestinians were killed and more than a hundred were injured in the Israeli attack.
Palestinian protesters clashed with Israeli police on Sunday in the Al-Aqsa Mosque compound in Israeli-occupied East Jerusalem. 20 people were injured. The clashes erupted when Israeli police raided the area after Fajr prayers on Sunday, local time. Earlier on Friday, 152 Palestinians were injured in an Israeli police raid on the Al-Aqsa Mosque compound.
Al-Aqsa Mosque or Baitul Muqaddas is considered as the third holiest place for Muslims all over the world. And to the Jews it is known as Temple Mount. They also claim it as their holy place.
