Miscreants attacked Mayor Mohammad Hanif Memorial Foundation’s food distribution program. Two volunteers were injured. The incident took place on Saturday (April 17) afternoon on Nazimuddin Road in Old Dhaka.
The mayor, Mohammad Hanif Memorial Foundation, alleged that the attack was carried out to disrupt the food distribution program.
The attackers were followers of a councilor of Dhaka South City Corporation’s (DSCC) ward 31. At that time, they looted at least 50 sacks of food. Poor people have returned without getting food.
On the occasion of Holy Ramadan, the Mayor Mohammad Hanif Memorial Foundation started this program by distributing food among 8000 poor families in 30 wards of Old Dhaka from March 26. Meanwhile, 30 kg of food items were distributed among about three thousand families in 15 wards. Following this, a food distribution program was organized on Saturday (April 18) at 2 pm at Becharam Deuri in Old Dhaka and at 4:30 pm on Nazimuddin Road.

But at around 5 pm, Sheikh Mohammad Alamgir, a councilor of ward 31 of DSCC, suddenly attacked the program with domestic weapons. Arif Hossain, Md. Saadi, Md. Rihad, Rezaul Karim Dipu. The volunteers of the organization Tofazzal Hossain Joy, Raihan Alam, Tamjid Hossain Aryan were injured. Tofazzal’s head was blown off. He was admitted to Midford Hospital. Raihan and Tamjid received first aid at the hospital.
However, Councilor Sheikh Mohammad Alamgir claimed that his people were not involved in the incident. He said the Mayor Mohammad Hanif Memorial Foundation has made a list of people of their choice without providing food aid to the real poor people of the mahalla. Upon receiving the news, the deprived people snatched the food. The names of me or my people are being intentionally involved.
Mayor Mohammad Hanif Memorial Foundation Public Relations Officer Mohammad Habibul Islam Sumon said they carry out various social programs throughout the year, including free eye care. In its continuation, food distribution program has been taken up in Ramadan. But we have been attacked for no reason. Now we are preparing to file a case against the attackers at the police station.
