Pakistan’s new information minister is Maryam Aurangzeb

Prime Minister Shahbaz Sharif’s 36-member cabinet was sworn in at the President’s House in Islamabad on Tuesday (April 19th). Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) spokesperson Maryam Aurangzeb has been sworn in as Information Minister in the new cabinet.

He told a news conference in Islamabad shortly after being sworn in as Information Minister that no “black” law would be enacted or acted upon that would restrict the constitutional right of the people to freedom of expression.

Miriam Aurangzeb is a member of the National Assembly of Pakistan and the current spokesperson for the Pakistan Muslim League (N) political party. He served as the Union Minister of Information and Broadcasting of Pakistan from April to May 2016.

He graduated from the Federal Government College, Islamabad. He later moved to London to pursue an MA in Economics from Quaid-e-Azam University. From there he earned a master’s degree in environmental and development policy from King’s College London.
