The latest weapons test will play a key role in enhancing long-range artillery units and strategic nuclear capabilities, the Korean Central News Agency said.

However, the South Korean military said in a statement on Sunday morning that Pyongyang had fired two “projectiles” into the sea off North Korea’s east coast at midnight.

In addition to conducting the tests, Kim gave “important directions to further enhance the country’s defense and nuclear capabilities,” the report said, adding that South Korea and the United States had recently warned that Pyongyang could resume nuclear tests.
