Musa was sentenced to life in prison by the first IS militant in the state

Musa alias Mohammad Mosiuddin, an ISIS militant captured from Burdwan station six years ago, has been sentenced to life in prison. The sentence was handed down by a special NIA court judge in the city sessions court in Kolkata on Friday. This is the first time an ISIS militant has been convicted in the state.

Musa was arrested from Burdwan station on July 4, 2016 by the Railway Police and CID. The NIA then took him into custody. Musa, a resident of Lavpur in Birbhum, has repeatedly attacked prison guards while in custody. He made a sharp weapon by rubbing a spoon in the prison cell to attack the prison guards. The militant even threw shoes at the judge in court. Representatives of the FBI came to Calcutta to interrogate him.

A special NIA court convicted him on Wednesday after a lengthy trial. He was later sentenced to life imprisonment by the judge on multiple counts, including treason and UAPA. This is the first time an IS militant has been convicted in the state.
