Witnesses say Israeli warplanes have struck south of the Gaza Strip. The military wing of Hamas, Gaza’s ruling group, said it had fired on Israeli planes.

In a statement, Hamas spokesman Hazem Qasim said Israeli warplanes had struck in Gaza. “Congratulations to our resistance fighters,” he said. These fighters have dealt with Israeli warplanes with our anti-aircraft defense management.

AFP says a rocket fired into Israel from the besieged Gaza Strip destroyed Israel’s “Iron Dome” defense system. Shortly afterwards, Israel launched an air strike on Gaza.

Eyewitnesses and security sources in Gaza say there were no reports of injuries in the Israeli attack on Tuesday morning.

The Israeli military claims that in response to the rocket attack, Israeli military (IDF) warplanes attacked a Hamas weapons manufacturing facility in the Gaza Strip.
