What is e-visa India?

The Government of India has presented Electronic Travel Authorization or eTA for India which permits residents of 180 nations to head out to India without physically stepping on their international IDs. This new type of approval is e-visa India (or Electronic India Visa). It is an electronic India visa that allows foreign visitors to go to India for 5 main purposes, tourism/entertainment / short-term courses, business, medical visits,s or conferences. There are more subclasses under each visa type. According to the Indian government’s immigration authority, all foreign travelers must have an India EVISA or a regular visa before entering the country.

Note that travelers to India do not have to go to the Indian Embassy or the Indian High Commission. They can apply online and carry printed or electronic copies of e-visa India (Electronic India Visa) on their mobile device. The Immigration Officer will check whether e-visa India is valid in the relevant passport system. EVISA India is the preferred, secure and reliable way to enter India. Paper or conventional India Visa is not a trusted procedure by the Government of India, for the convenience of travelers, they do not need to go to the local Indian Embassy / Consulate or High Commission to secure their Indian visa.

What are the requirements of the e-VISA India application?


To apply for e-visa India, applicants must have a valid passport for at least 6 months (starting from the date of entry), an email, and a valid credit/debit card.


  • E-Visa will be available a maximum of 3 times in a calendar year i.e. January to December.
  • E-Visa is non-extensible, non-convertible and secure/restricted, and not valid for entry into cantonment areas.
  • Eligible country/region applicants must apply online at least 7 days before the date of arrival.
  • International travelers do not need to have proof of flight tickets or hotel booking for an Indian visa.

Is E-VISA India a single or multiple entry visa? Can it be extended?

The e-Tourist 30 Day Visa is a double entry visa with multiple entry visas for 1 year and 5 years as an e-tourist. Similarly, an e-business visa is a multiple entry visa.

However, the e-medical visa is a triple entry visa. All IVISA is non-convertible and one is non-extensible.

India Tourist Visa

The Indian government is offering a new, streamlined visa process to visitors from around the world, including the United States, in an effort to boost international tourism. The new “India visas on arrival” program will allow tourists to apply for a visa at the airport and bypass long lines and expensive overseas travel. Visitors will also be able to apply for an “India visa” within 48 hours of arrival. The new program will be available only at airports that handle international flights, namely the Indira Gandhi International Airport in New Delhi and the Chhatrapati Shivaji International Airport in Mumbai.
