DNA tests will be conducted on the family members of those whose fathers, children and brothers died in the horrific explosion and fire at the container depot at Sitakunda in Chittagong. The identities of those killed who have not yet been identified will be confirmed by DNA testing.
Therefore, parents, siblings or two of the deceased have been requested to go to the booth set up in front of One Stop Emergency Care at the East Gate of Chittagong Medical College Hospital on Monday (June 8) at 8 am and give samples.
Chittagong Medical College (CMC) Hospital authorities made the request on Sunday night (June 5).
The death toll from the blaze has risen to 49. The identities of 22 of them have been identified.
Meanwhile, the fire at the container depot has not been brought under control yet. Twenty-five fire service teams are working to control the fire.
Earlier, a fire broke out at BM container depot in Sonaichhari area of Sitakunda on Saturday (June 4) at around 9 pm. While working on fire control, a container containing chemicals exploded with a loud noise. More than four hundred people were injured. They include depot workers, local residents as well as members of the police and fire service.
Most of the injured were brought to Chittagong Medical College Hospital at night. Besides, many were admitted to other hospitals in Chittagong. Several died at the hospital. Among the dead were eight firefighters.
Also on Sunday (June 5) morning, several bodies were recovered from the site of the blast.
