Jinnat Ali told Prothom Alo that he admitted his wife to the clinic around 9 am on Friday to have a caesarean section. Within half an hour, he was taken to the operating room. A doctor came in to perform the operation. About an hour later, an ambulance arrived in front of the clinic. 5-6 staff of the clinic went to pick up Shiuli in an ambulance. They keep saying, the patient’s blood pressure has decreased, he should be taken to Khulna. Then the relatives of the patient became excited. In this situation, the staff left the patient and blocked the main gate of the clinic. A doctor hurried out and left the clinic. The others fled through the back door. At this time Shiuli was found dead. The unborn child is in her womb

Jinnat Ali said, ‘I have a four-year-old daughter. Thinking about his future, the matter has been resolved for three and a half lakh rupees. So I did not complain to the police. The body was buried on Friday night.

Shaheen Sajjad, the owner of the clinic, made several calls on his mobile phone but did not answer. In the evening, there was only one receptionist named Mahfuza Khanam in the clinic. He said in the first light, ‘The patient’s blood pressure was low, the patient died before the caesarean section. I don’t know how he died.

Narail Civil Surgeon Nasima Akhtar told Prothom Alo on Saturday evening that a three-member inquiry committee headed by Kalia Upazila Health and Family Planning Officer Kajal Mallick has been formed after learning of the incident. The committee will give an investigation report within five days. After receiving the report, everything will be known.

Officer-in-charge (OC) of Naragati Police Station Sukant Saha said the police had gone there to handle the situation after receiving information about the incident. No legal action was taken as the patient’s relatives did not lodge a complaint.

Locals complain that the private hospital has been running for four years but there are no full-time doctors. There are no trained nurses. The condition of the operating room is deplorable. Some maternity deaths have taken place here before. They have ‘managed’ everything because the owners are influential.

Mahfuza Khanam, the receptionist, declined to comment on whether there was a full-time doctor in the hospital and which doctor was operating on the midwife.

The relatives of the patient could not say anything about the doctor. It is learned that a doctor named Shariful went to perform the surgery. His identity was not known. When she went to anesthetize herself, the mother died.

Asked about the ongoing medical activities at the hospital without registration, Civil Surgeon Nasima Akhtar said the owners had applied for registration last year and this year. After the inspection, it will be decided whether registration can be given or not.
