Death of a Belarusian citizen working on the Rooppur project

A Belarusian named Ivanu Maksim, 52, was killed while working on a nuclear power project under construction at Rooppur in Pabna’s Ishwardi upazila. His body was recovered from a room in the Green City building, a housing project for foreigners, at Natunhat in Sahapur upazila on Friday (April 15th) morning.

Maxim was working for a foreign company called RuinWorld of Rooppur Nuclear Power Project.

According to police sources, the Belarusian man lived in room 152 on the 15th floor of Green City Residential Building 1. He was supposed to be in charge of the project on Friday morning but did not join the work. At around 8 in the morning, a resident next to his flat saw him lying unconscious. The news was conveyed to the concerned officials including the Green City project. Upon receiving the news, the police recovered the body from the Green City building.. . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . .

Ruhul Quddus, site in-charge of the Rooppur project, told the Dhaka Post, quoting a Russian doctor at the Greencity project, that Maxim was thought to have died of a heart attack. He fell unconscious on the bed. Later the doctor came and declared him dead.

Ishwardi Police Officer-in-Charge (OC) Asaduzzaman Asad said, “Initially, we think he died of a heart attack.” After retrieving the body, it was sent to the morgue of Pabna General Hospital for autopsy. Once the autopsy is completed, arrangements will be made to send his body back to his home country by contacting the embassy.
