DAMA is an agreement between the Australian Government and a designated area to address specific labor shortages. The DAMA allows regional employers to sponsor skilled and semi-skilled overseas workers for relevant positions that local workers currently unfill. The Victoria Occupation List includes occupations in high demand in Melbourne, Australia. This Skilled Occupation List includes occupations that have a skilled worker shortage and requires immediate hiring to fill the gap. The Victoria Government created this occupation list to attract overseas workers to compete in the global market. Currently, DAMA is applicable to 27 occupations, the majority of which are in the agriculture and hospitality sectors. 13 occupations on the Victoria DAMA Occupation list offer English language and Temporary Skilled Migration Income Threshold (TSMIT) concessions.

The List of Occupations

Agricultural and Horticultural mobile plant operator ANZSCO’s six-digit code is 721111 and the skill level required is four. Skills and experience concession is also available. It also includes TSMIT concession and English language concession which leads to permanent pathways. Other occupations include Agricultural Technician, Automotive Electrician, Beef Cattle Farmer, Café or Restaurant Manager, Chef, Cook, Dairy Cattle Farm Operator, Diesel Motor Mechanic, and Earthmoving Plant Operator (General). Fitter (General) (Computer Numerical Control Setter), Fitter and Turner, Hotel or Motel Manager, Industrial Spray painter, Meat Boner and Slicer, Meat Process Worker, Metal Fabricator, Metallurgical or Materials Technician (Non-destructive Testing Technician), Mixed Crop Farmer, Mixed Livestock Farmer, Mobile Plant Operators (NEC), Motor Mechanic (General), Panel beater, Product Grader (Meat Grader), Senior Dairy Cattle Farm Worker, Slaughterer, Truck Driver (General).  

Pathway to Permanent Residency

For migrants, Australia offers a variety of visas leading to permanent residency. Here are a few examples of well-known visas:

  • Points-based Skilled Independent Visa – Subclass 189
  • Subclass 190 Skilled Nominated Visa
  • Subclass 489 Skilled Regional Sponsored Visa (State or Family Sponsorship Streams Available)

  • Under DAMA, Subclass 482 visa holders have a path to permanent residency.
