Boris Johnson arrives in India, hints at visa facilitation

The Prime Minister of the United Kingdom Boris Johnson has arrived in Ahmedabad, Gujarat on a two-day visit to India. He landed in Ahmedabad on Thursday morning. He will meet Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Friday. The two leaders are expected to discuss trade and defense as well as other issues.

Boris Johnson has hinted that he could more easily issue visas to Indians in exchange for a free trade agreement. If this agreement is signed, the annual bilateral trade between the two countries will increase by millions of pounds.

Boris Johnson has indicated on a flight to India that he is ready to allow more Indians to settle in the UK. On Thursday, Boris Johnson will visit Shabarmati Ashram in Gujarat. He will also meet business leaders including Gautam Adani. Then the British Prime Minister will go to Vadodara. There he will visit JCB, a heavy machinery factory. Johnson will arrive in Delhi in the evening.

Earlier this month, US President Joe Biden told Modi that it was not in India’s interest to buy more oil from Russia. A spokesman for Johnson said he would not brief Modi on the matter.
