35 killed in Zimbabwe bus crash

At least 35 people have been killed and 61 others injured in a bus crash in the African nation of Zimbabwe. Paul Nayathi, a spokesman for the country’s law enforcement agency and spokesman, confirmed the news to AFP.

“The bus was heading to the city’s main church, Zion Christian Church, on Easter,” Nayati said, referring to the crash in the southeastern city of Chipping on Thursday night. The church was the destination for almost all the passengers. It lost control on the way and fell into a ditch. As a result, casualties occurred.

‘The accident happened due to extra passenger transport. Initial investigations revealed that the bus had a capacity of 70 to 85 passengers. It was carrying more than double the capacity.

Bus accidents, however, are common in this southern African country. Accidents are more common, especially on holidays when there are more people on the road.

Excessive passenger transport, incompetent drivers and broken roads are the main causes of these accidents.
